My Original Aboriginal: A Aboriginal Dot Painting by Behrj Baronian (2021)

My piece is a direct representation of myself in many different aspects of my life, I include 4 unique symbols that all mean something to me or tell something about me. My first symbol is the Scorpio astrological symbol as seen in the top right corner. This represents the time I was born and some might say it would define my personality traits. Another symbol that I include in running through the middle of my piece is the water flow. This represents my personality because like the river I like to go with the flow and take what life has to offer me when it does. This also represents my astrological element of water. My third symbol that I have in my piece is the Scorpio constellation. This again represents me because it has to do with the sky during the time of my birth and some may believe it has to do with how the energy of the stars affect me as a person. Finally I used the boomerang as my last symbol in my aborigine art. The boomerang is my favorite symbol out of the ones I've used because of how it represents my personality. I think that the boomerang represents me well because of how it always comes back. This is similar to how I can always bounce back from a tough situation in life.

I created this piece using the brush tool on Adobe Photoshop. I had to do some research first on my astrological sign and to try and find aboriginal symbols that I relate to. The first thing I did was create the fill layer background for my project. I chose a desaturated brown for my background so that other colors within the piece could pop out more. I then created my pieces with a brush of stroke sizes ranging from 25 to 150. I also created a frame for the piece at the end using a diagonal dotting technique. Some problems I had in the piece was not using the layers panel correctly. I should've created another layer for the painting but instead I painted right on the background. This was a problem because when it came time to change the background color I had to use a special effects technique rather than just swapping the color on the color panel. I would change my piece next time by setting up my layers panel correctly. Another thing I would do differently about my piece has to do with the distribution of space. I would've moved both the astrological logo in the top left to be farther down and I would have also moved the constellation in the bottom left farther to the right. These adjustments would create more “white space” within the elements giving the whole piece a less crowded feel. Related website
