For my surreal composition project, I chose to make a collage featuring different photos of recording artist DaBaby blended in with the presidents of mount rushmore. This piece is meant to convey a light hearted message about the artist’s status in the music industry.
For my surreal composition, I would have to say that the use of clipping masks was the most effective and useful way to make this collage. Using the skills I had previously learned with practice in Digital Media I was able to almost effortlessly use tools such as blend modes, adjustment layers and advanced selection in order to create the illusion of the artist’s head overlaid with the president’s sculptures.
I believe that this project was the perfect opportunity to take a break from classic or realistic compositions and move towards surrealism. Surrealism while usually very experimental is not only great for practice with more obscure but just as useful photoshop techniques but also helped develop Freestyle student’s as artists.
