Van Gogh Surreal Art: A Senior Surreal Photo by Evelyn Yaskin (2021)

I was initially inspired by artwork that I researched about surrealism, and I decided to base my photoshop surreal image after Van Gogh. The message that I am conveying with this piece is that one is always surrounded by their own work and products, because it makes them who they are. That’s why Van Gogh in this scene is surrounded by some of his famous artwork, including Starry night and Sunflowers. I was also inspired by other artists such as Michalengo and his sculpture of David, as well as The Son of Man by René Magritte.

I found using clipping masks super useful in this project. As well, as the brush tool to reveal or make images disappear, to help blend objects. I also found the lasso tool to be helpful to importing textures.

I really enjoyed creating surreal compositions because it allows you to be more creative than with realistic compositions, without worrying about everything looking too realistic. You still have to worry about things blending well together, but of course the image is not going to look “real.” I would love to do another project similar to this one. Related website
