This photoshop surreal composition is based on dreaming and the fantasy state that it puts people in. I wanted to convey the idea that dreams are whimsical and silly but also based in reality. Pictured is the inside of a camping tent where campers are sleeping, and out of the tent door flaps you see a surreal image of hikers hiking on Saturn’s rings.
The techniques I found most useful were layer masks and opening the selection in the properties panel to adjust the precision of my lines. This was helpful because the hikers were very small images, so my original selection included many white outlines that I needed to remove.
I prefer creating surreal compositions as opposed to realistic compositions because surreal images allow your imagination to run wild. I had so much fun brainstorming the crazy things I could mix together for my surreal compositions.
