For this assignment, I decided to do a PSA about finding your hobby, because I think hobbies are critical to promoting mental health. The background of my PSA is a gradient from blue at the bottom right to orange in the top left. I chose these colors because orange is a very energetic color, and I chose its complementary color, blue. Across the top of the page, it says “Find your hobby”, and then going down the page it says “Discover your passion.” The word “passion” is tilted at a fifteen-degree angle to make it stand out and has an image traced picture of a camera on top of it. The reason I chose a camera is that photography is a hobby that I have and that a lot of people share, so I included it as an example. The idea behind my PSA is to encourage people to go out and find their hobbies. The audience I want to reach is people who don’t really have a hobby or think they don’t want one.
I made this using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I first created my background and wrote out my text. Next, I used Photoshop to cut out my camera photo and image trace the remaining image. After I added the camera to the Illustrator file, I began to play around with the idea of rotating some of my elements and adding a gradient to my background. I finally settled on rotating the word “passion” and the camera and placing the camera on top of the word. I also decided on a blue to orange gradient. Some issues I faced were with the images, as the bottom of the camera looks very awkward because of the surface it was placed on when I took the photos originally. I overcame this by placing the image traced camera on top of the word “passion”, sort of hiding the bottom of the camera.
