About the overarching Unit Question:
The Narrative Perspectives Project challenges Seniors with
"How well can you apply advanced narrative techniques to build a compelling story?"
By exploring various narrative points of view and experimenting with dialogue in their story writing, students develop more advanced storytelling techniques and ideas they apply in the creation of surreal compositions, movie posters, book jacket designs, screenplays, films, trailers, keyframe and motion caption animations, 3D layered art and videos, and JavaScript websites. Students deepen their technical communication skills by learning a variety of modern professional equipment and applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Substance Painter, Avid Pro Tools, Autodesk Maya, ZBrush, and HTML/CSS/JavaScript with Visual Studio Code.
About the specific project within the unit that is featured in this gallery:
Seniors in Digital Media were challenged to create a 3D Layered Art Production using stacked 2D layers from a choice of 3 different types of projects:
- 3D Concept Ring Art
- 3D Light / Shadow Box
- 3D Stacked Wood Art
Each project was created with Adobe Illustrator, then laser cut with paper or wood. Each student was tasked to create a time-lapse or accelerated video showing the physical assembly process including electronics for the light box project and ending the video featuring the completed multi-layer art production.
Continuing the study of 3D, students learned how to embed, lay out, and animate flat 2D imported illustrated art within 3D virtual space in Adobe After Effects that featured the same digital art for the laser cut project. They also added virtual lighting to cast shadows in the scene and finally animated virtual cameras into and around the 3D virtual space.
