Our documentary unit was very fun, but it was also where my workflow began to slip. I fell extremely behind on the documentary research paper, leading to me being unable to complete any documentary projects besides the film. As a result, I decided to go all in for it, which was also a bad idea, because we couldn’t finish the project until literally the last week of school.
Mockumentary
To teach us about creating a documentary, we first had to create a mockumentary. We wrote a fictional script and learned about the rules of talking head documentaries to create a comedy film.
Pets in Need
Our official documentary film was about Pets in Need, a local animal shelter. My partner Mia and I reached out to various employees and volunteers and gathered interviews about the company and the environment. Editing was very fun, but it was also tedious. It felt like putting a puzzle together. Ultimately, I am extremely happy with the final product, and it is one of my favorites of the entire year.
