FILM

The explorations project at Freestyle is meant to be where you learn a new skill within your elective and show your use of the skill. For my explorations project I chose to make a comedy film as I had never tried making one. To learn how to make a film funny I studied many famous shows and movies such as Friday, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Office and many more. I wanted to mostly focus on deadpan and satirical comedy.

As I said in my presentation video, I do wish I let the actors go more off script and add their own silliness to the film. This being said, I learned a lot from making this short, especially when it comes to working with actors and letting them take more creative control of their roles. For all of my future films I will keep this in mind by sometimes not constraining actors to specific lines.

ENGLISH

For the poetry unit in English I really appreciate the freedom we were given. The first week of the poetry unit we had a publish poet come in and teach us about writing poetry. That week completely opened my eyes to the worlds of possibilities that could be reached through poetry. I started to see poems as portals into new worlds rather than just words on a paper. In my poem, Divided, I wanted to explore how I always feel split between two sides in life. I always remember not being able to fit exactly into one group and would float between two.

“This phenomena (internal division) has followed me throughout my life and defines me.”

The poetry production conveyed the internal struggle of the poem.

I decided to paintings for the visuals so that the viewer can really get encapsulated in the poem.
