Angles

Angles

1/50; F8.0; iso 800 The prompt for this photo was ‘angles’, which instructed us to use creative angles when taking our photo. Recently I had the opportunity to conduct interviews at Mountain View Fire Department, which was full of interesting angles and lines.

Rule of Odds

Rule of Odds

iso 800; f/4.5; 1/50 The assignment for this image was the rule of odds. I had to learn about this, as I had never previously heard of it. It is when you seperate the distinct subjects in an image into odd categories to create a sense of imbalance in the photo. In my image there are three distinct groups.

Negative Space

Negative Space

1/50; iso 400; f/1.5 For the theme negative space I took this photo of a flower, surrounded in blank space. To me this fulfills the theme as using the empty space of a picture to highlight what is special about it; as this draws complete focus on the flower itself.

Eyes

Eyes

1/20; iso 800; f/5.6 The prompt for this photograph was eyes, with the saying that eyes are the window to the soul. A statement I most definitely agree with. I decided to photograph my dog Tayto, who is three years old and who I love to spend time around. I decided to keep the fstop low on this assignment to highlight her eyes over everything else.

Balance in Holiday Traditions

Balance in Holiday Traditions

iso 200; f/8; 1/50 I took this photo of a poinsettia to show balance in holiday traditions. This widely Christmas plant represents good will and community and every year we like to use them to decorate our house. They add an element of nature to the widely artificialness (as in the emphasis on physical objects) that surrounds Christmas.

Leading Lines

Leading Lines

1/500 sec; f/6.3; iso 100 I chose this photo to represent leading lines because it is full of different lines in the architecture, painted on the ground, lining the hallways, in the door ways. I feel as thought this photo in particular emphasizes how much lines dominate our lives.

Symmetry

Symmetry

f/8 1/250 iso200 I chose this image because it depicts exactly as the title says, the symmetry that surrounds us. I liked the way that the arrows were so aligned with one another, and yet they contrasted each other. It is technically not symmetry as much as it is a reflection, but I thought that the composition was interesting enough that the criteria could be met.

Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds

iso 400; 1/50; f/8 I chose this picture to display the rule of thirds because it depicts a cat who has seen something that we can’t see and looks to be watching that thing. The cat is in the far left of the frame, leaving the other two thirds of the shot to just show the scenery, this leaves the cat and its reflection to be the sole focus of the photo.
