New Beginnings

Candle melting on a calendar with a date marked off with an x and arrows
50mm, 1/100, f 2.5, ISO 400

For this photo, we were challenged to tell the story of how when some things end, others begin. Through this image, I wanted to show that even though the candle is melting and its life is coming to an end, there are still new beginnings represented by the calendar in the background. The contrast between the melting candle and the fresh dates on the calendar creates a strong juxtaposition that reflects how even grief filled endings we’re not ready to let go of are still followed by new opportunities and experiences to look forward to because life is a cycle of constant endings and beginnings.
