Haiku
In my english class we were prompted to write a haiku about a specific prompt given to us. A haiku is a Japanese format for poetry that contains 3 lines the first having 5 syllables, the second having 7 and the last one having 5. The prompt I was given was “I am experiencing sorrow trough storytelling”. After a long time thinking about how to turn this prompt into a haiku I decided to use the metaphor of a story ending with the sorrow of somebody life ending as a story has a beginning middle and end and so does our lives and this end usually comes with much sadness and sorrow. With this idea in mind I wrote my haiku and went out to take an image that would match this theme. Then I opened premier pro and after using the editing skills that I learned in our digital media class I came up with this video.
I valued the creative freedom we were given in this project and the skills we learned trough out the way. Although the prompt and the haiku were both constricting formats they helped inspire me and there was still enough room to come up with my own unique ideas. There was also a lot of room for expression with the taking of the image and editing of the video. I also valued the skills that I learned inside of our class that I will be able to apply to future projects.

“Why ARt” Essay
The “Why Art?” Essay project was an assignment given to us to answer the question of why art is important. In this assignment they allowed us the freedom of picking our own artist which we thought would be interesting and relating it to one of many assigned articles that our english teacher gave us. The artist that I picked was Cândido Portinari a Brazilian artist who touched on the subject of the consequences of war and I decided to relate it to Doris Salcedos opinions piece “Naming the Disappeared, Raising the Dead
Conceptual-Film
Our conceptual unit in film were all short experimental films we did to test out and learn how to use different skills and edit our videos. My experience in film has been great so far and I have had a lot of fun learning how to record and edit videos and a great time collaborating with my classmates.
Experimental Film
I am experiencing sorrow trough storytelling. That was the theme that I was given to make this experimental film and was challenged to express emotion trough a video. During class we would pitch ideas to each other on how we would each express our emotions and we would share out our critiques and helpful ideas in order to improve them. Then we would record and watch each others raw footage and help improve the way each of us were supposed to record your footage. After we all edited our footage into short drafts and went trough the same process of watching and critiquing on how we could improve each others films. This was the final product of my experimental film:
To make this experimental film I had to figure out creative ways to emphasize my message and a lot of the ways I thought of were too hard to film so I had to make creative solutions like making the sun out of paper and taking multiple shots of it being moved across the screen in order to capture it moving. I quite enjoyed this project due to the freedom and learning experiences it gave us as well as the abstract approach we had to take for our film.
