Showcase

Hello, welcome to my site! My name is Jacob Choi and I am a student at Freestyle Academy. At Freestyle, I have taken classes in Digital Media, English and my elective Film! I joined freestyle this year as a first year senior and I’ve had a great time while at freestyle. Before joining freestyle, I had some experience with regards to art-related subjects but I was immersed in the arts and activate making of art while at Freestyle. After highschool I will be pursuing nursing at De Anza college but will continue video and film related works as a hobby.

I grew up in Southern California, specifically in Baldwin Park till I was 16. I moved to the Bay Area when I was a around 16. I first moved to Burlingame and stayed their till I was 17 where we then moved to Mountain View where I currently am. I am your standard nerd who loves comic books, videogames, and the such. But I also have passions in cooking and art.

“Into the Comic-Verse” Podcast

One of the projects we undertook in my English class was a podcast unit. I decided to do my podcast on comicbooks as it is one of my passions. So I created a script, recorded my podcast, and created a thumbnail for said podcast! With this project, I wanted to really bring my passion of comicbooks to the forefront. I also wanted to really replicate the style of a comicbook when it came to the thumbnail and flex my muscles when it came to Photoshop and Illustrator.

“The LFY Infomercial” Zenith Project

For my Zenith I decided to create an Infomercial. I wanted to replicate the styling of Adult-Swim infomercials. I wanted to tackle a project independently as I have always handled projects with a partner or in a group. For this project, I created a schedule and developed a script. I wanted to use my inspiration from Adult-Swim and create an infomercial that was absurd yet had some sense of reality.

For my editing on this, I wanted to put emphasis on this being taken place in a reality close to us yet different. I used Adobe Premiere Pro to create the feel similar in Adult Swim, with some awkward pauses and use of music. This project has taught me a lot on the importance of going with the flow and planning.

Reflection

My time at Freestyle has been one of my favorite memories at highschool. I would say it has also been one of the most valuable experiences in highschool. These two projects I feel have been the projects I have been the most passionate about and represents my passion the best. I would say that being at Freestyle has revived my love of the arts and creation of media since COVID-19 has started. I also think that being at Freestyle has allowed me to connect with those who have shared love of interests but also helped inspire me to become better and push myself.
