The Visual Narrative Project questions Juniors on how they can show a structured story to the best of their abilities. Starting off with understanding with many forms of writing, such as prose fiction, to even graphic novels. Students begin to grow their technical communication skills by learning and using a wide variety of modern professional equipment and applications to achieve their goals in the future.

Personally, I enjoyed every bit of this unit, sure it was hard, but I learned a lot through those projects. As a growing storywriter, this unit helped me learn the importance of character building and help the reader understand the basic plot of the story while letting them discover the rest for themselves, English is a big factor to this, from writing a short story, to making our very own documentary. While I wasn’t able to make my own short story, I gave it my all with our documentary unit, making sure I gave light to a situation many wouldn’t find important. And this can be applied as well to digital art, because this unit wasn’t just big help to me in storywriting, but how I can show it, Animation class really put emphasis on that task, as we were tasked in making a Narrative story animation in teams, my team and I, while a bit rough, were able to accomplish it, and personally, I’m proud of them for what we were able to do in the final product, and we learned from it a lot on how we should write and plan out our stories and how we animate it. But overall, I enjoyed this unit, as I was able to identify my own strengths and weaknesses, and from there learn and grow from those experience.

During the Visual Narrative Project, we learned how to use Adobe Illustrator, this allowed us to draw smoothly without dropping quality in pixels (looking at you Photoshop). With this in mind, we were able to create some amazing art (everyone did amazing, I still have to get use to Illustrator unfortunately), ranging from cover art for our Short Stories, making some exquisite corpses (and some pretty much do count as corpses ironically enough).

Our first main Illustrator project for the unit. If you couldn’t tell by now which one’s mine, kinda glad. For this project, called “Exquisite Corpses” we were put in a group of 3 and tasked with making a portion of a body, however, we were not allowed to see what our other teammates were designing, and at the end, Mr. Florendo would “Frakenstien” all three into one body, hence the name “Exquisite Corpse”.

Our third and latest Illustrator project for the unit! Personally, I enjoyed making this, although I wasn’t having it with Illustrator… Regardless, for this project, we were tasked on making our own designs for a physical item, stickers, patches, mugs, sweater, etcetera, for mine own design, I went for my personal original character, Relic. At first, I was confused on to draw the front, as I had already planned out what to do with the other sides, so I went for a simple approach, a uplifting message. For here on out, I went ahead and created a sketch where it would server as the base for the final.

During the Visual Narrative Project, we also learned how to edit audio on Pro Tools, with that in mind, we were able to create our own parody music. Our key goal for the project was to be original with out lyrics, while at the same time have lyrics that made sense, and sometimes if you were able to, make a story with it! A lot of the class took the opportunity to create some funny lyrics or chose to make amazing stories. For my my own parody, I chose to go for a story that gave a message for people, a funny one nonetheless. I chose to parody “One Way Dream” from the videogame “Sonic Frontiers” because of the original message it gave, and because I just loved the instrumental. Fun fact, I had to take another attempt because my throat could just not handle the sheer volume and pitch my voice was producing, hence the voice crack during the middle of the song, I still have regrets to this day…

In comparison to English and Digital Media, our elective classes had the biggest projects for the unit. For animation, we were able create various things, ranging from stop motion animations like paper, objects, and even puppets, to good old digital animation. As you should know by now, the Visual Narrative Project tasked us on creating stories and connecting the viewer towards them. So for the beginning of the unit, we made puppets, it took us around 1 1/2 months,
