Hello! I am Jean-Marc Langlois, a film student at Freestyle Academy. Freestyle Academy has taught me many modern skills, and fostered my passion for filmmaking.
My senior showcase revolves around my passion for Film; particularly some of the more creative visual and auditory elements. I’ve always been inspired by how much can be expressed through visuals in film, particularly through cinematography, blocking, color, and VFX. As of recently I’ve also realized the value of good audio elements, and have enjoyed creating and editing the sounds for my films.
For these projects, I seek feedback on how I can take my cinematography, editing (+ audio editing), and VFX skills to the next level. General feedback is also very much appreciated.
While my future plans do not involve pursuing film as a career, I plan to keep filmmaking as a hobby or secondary job as I study physics, my other passion.
For further information or to contact me, send me an email at jmlanglois19@gmail.com. I am grateful for this opportunity and eagerly anticipate your feedback.
Showcase Video
This video gives some insight on the lessons learned from and creative decisions behind the creation of some of the scenes/shots I’m most proud of.
Showcase Reel
In my reel, I’m proud to share a selection of some of the projects I’ve created during my time at Freestyle Academy. I’d also like to thank and shoutout Jacob Mitani, a peer I worked with in Junior year who decided to leave Freestyle Academy after his 1st year. Despite his leave, he continued to collaborate with us and created many wonderful soundtracks, including the one used in the video above. If you are interested in contacting Jacob, his email is: jacobmitani12@gmail.com.
Reflection
This year, and my experience at Freestyle as a whole, has been extremely positive and has not only helped foster my creative skills, but also has pushed me to be a more mature, responsible adult.
Mr. Taylor and the film elective class have been very formative in these tender years, taking a more hands off approach to learning and teaching me how to learn on my own, letting me pursue what I want to focus on. The sheer size of the senior narrative project pushed me to learn how to stay organized, create and self-impose schedules, communicate professionally, and collaborate efficiently with peers.
Freestyle has been a great challenge for me, as it has pushed me outside my comfort zone time and again. Even if I failed to meet my goal, I’ve always gained valuable life experience and learned from my mistakes.
Looking back to how I was when I entered freestyle, I’ve gained so much experience and knowledge. My approach to filmmaking is so much different than before. I still look forward to filmmaking, even if it is not my primary focus, knowing I have the knowledge and potential to create something professional.
I am excited for the future, knowing I can conquer whatever is ahead, thanks to Freestyle Academy.
