This years Zenith project allowed me to explore creating anything that I wanted. Our only rule for the project was our Zenith was that it had to relate to our class, which for me was design. For my project, I wanted to challenge my musical and design skills, so I decided to create an album which included album art. I only was able to finish 3 songs, but I still was able to challenge my skills.

Production Process

I began my Zenith production by creating the music for my project, which is shown in the pictures below. My gallery was having issues, so I have a compilation of photos that demonstrate my process.

Zenith Reflection

Our final project in Freestyle, the Zenith, challenged us to create a project of our choice, anything that demonstrated the skills that we learned throughout our two years at Freestyle. At first, I didn’t know what I wanted to create, but when I began brainstorming the passions and skills I acquired at freestyle, the two skills that stood out to me were creating music and digital art. When I recognized these skills, I decided that I wanted to produce my first album and create album art to accompany the songs I create.

During my production process, I started by writing music. I produced my songs through the Digital Audio Workstation, Logic Pro X, and drew my album art in the application Adobe Illustrator, an application I learned through my design classes at Freestyle. For the music portion of my Zenith, two of the songs I created were my own original compositions, but the other song was a remix of a song that I really enjoy, “Lie”, by Shallou. Being able to create an album by myself using applications I learned at Freestyle allowed me to recognize that Freestyle had prepared me with many 21st century ready skills.

After completing my project, I spent some time reflecting on the work that I created. If I was able to redo my project over, I would plan the timeline of my project better and allocate more time to finish my songs. At the end of the I found myself rushing at the end of the Zenith project, which created lots of difficulty in the final days of the Zenith Project. By giving myself more time to complete the project, I could have produced more songs and increased the quality of my album covers, but I felt that it still came out really well and represented the themes I wanted to achieve.

I hope that in the future, I will be able to continue creating music knowing that I have the ability to produce albums by myself. By completing this project, I gained the confidence knowing that I have the ability to create my own music and art. I hope to continue working on music and art, as through the Zenith project I have found this to be a newfound passion of mine.
