Self Portrait
For this assigment, I was assigned to take 2 photos that make up one work (a diptych) that represent a trait or part of myself. I chose to photograph one of my favorite things, food. My friend Zach helped me by acting as a model.
The first photograph of my diptych is that of a mad scientist in a science lab, creating, experimenting, observing, with beakers full of food and ingredients. The location of the photograph fits my quote, “Cooking is a science experiment,” very literally. The mad scientist character is myself. His crazy ideas could possibly work, and they might just taste good. Cooking, like science, is not just making food. It is the art of inventing something useful, and something that will change the way a person feels.
In the second picture of my diptych the viewer sees a delicious steak, with fine silverware and a nice tablecloth. This picture shows the final result of a culinary experiment: something tasty. While some ideas sound different or not pleasing, once they have been tested and tried a couple of times, it can produce amazing results.
