My podcast was a way for me to talk about my favorite director, David Lynch. I wanted to talk about his movies in an academic capacity because I have so much to say about him and his work. After recently having watched his first feature film, I thought it was so interesting and unique that I wanted to discuss it on my podcast.

Introduction!

The work we do at freestyle is always meant to increase our understanding of technology and create things that will teach us real life skills. The popularity of podcasts has increased over the last several years, Especially after the release of the 2015 podcast Serial. Podcasting teaches us how to record and mix audio in a non musical capacity which is a skill that could very much be helpful in real life work settings. Podcasting helps teach us audio storytelling and how to create accessible content, even if the subject is very niche. We learn how to balance the technical terms and the things we want to talk about with the basic background for the content as to not confuse or put the listener off the podcast.

My inspirations were primarily podcasts under the Parcast Network umbrella. Parcast hosts a variety of both story and information based podcasts like Aaron Manhke’s Lore and historical/true crime podcasts like Famous Fates, Criminal Couples and Female Criminals (3 of my favorites). The hosts on Parcast are able to balance both the informational/storytelling aspects and the basic information listeners who aren’t too well versed in specific terminology need to enjoy it.

I genuinely enjoyed this podcasting experience and is something I’d consider continuing in the future. Getting to put your ideas out there in an audio format, getting to play around with audio and music mixing to create a deeper experience and learning a new program I hadn’t used before was a very fun and enriching experience overall. Keep your eyes out for the next episode of the David Lynch Power Hour 🙂
