Showcase

Hi! My name is Lindsey Park and I’m an Animation student at Freestyle Academy.

In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano and composing my own music. I love creating traditional art and I work with a variety of mediums including watercolor, pastel, charcoal, and more.  Fun, to me, is having an empty surface and any form of a drawing tool at my disposal, be it ketchup and fries on a paper mat at In-n-Out or the fogged window of a car and my fingers. I never thought of myself formally as an artist, but everywhere I went, I left a trail of paper scraps with doodles. I realized that drawing is just a constant expression of my imagination, like when I drew a sea of rabbits upon finding out how rabbits multiply. Making art is just a natural part of me, inseparable. Thus by pursuing art, I am just exploring and defining my identity.

I’m going to be an art major at Boston University but first I will be taking a gap year to explore the world and grow as an artist. Music is also very important to me and I hope to continue studying music in college.

For now, I am still trying to figure out what kind of career I will pursue, but my future will definitely involve art.

Showcase Video

I love creating my own stories. A lot of the artwork I create is inspired by stories from my imagination. My showcase video explores the different characters and scenes inspired by my stories such as having super powers or living in a futuristic world where memories can be erased. With 3D software, I can bring my imagination to life by creating my own 3D character models and animating them. I can express the character through the choice of their fashion and props. The story comes alive through the details. With Photoshop, I can depict the inner conflict of a character through a collage of my photography.

Reel

My reel is a compilation of almost all of my Freestyle work. It includes short animations, digital art, traditional art, and photography. I learned powerful software such as DragonFrame, Adobe After Effects, Autodesk Maya, Zbrush, and Substance 3D Painter.

Reflection

I am super grateful that I chose to enroll in Freestyle. I’ve been exposed to a wide variety of tools and learned an enormous amount of skills. I believe that the knowledge I’ve gained from Freestyle will benefit me in whatever art career I pursue in the future, and will feed my passion for creating stories. I now have many more ways to express them so that others can have a view into the world of my imagination. Through my experience at Freestyle, I have discovered that I am less of an animator and more of a fine arts and digital artist. While creating the reel, I realized just how much work I had produced these past two years and I am proud of what I have learned.
