The documentary project was an extensive, interview-based project regarding a topic that the subject of the interview relates to. For me, this topic was work-life balance and the importance of sports. I interviewed my father, Jeroen Brouwer, about his experiences with sports throughout his life. He talked about the importance of sports in his life, how work and sports conflicted each other during different periods of his life, and how they will continue to change in the future. I really enjoyed this specific topic because I feel it relates to almost every everybody, because just about everyone has to work, and balancing work with other activities is very important to mental health.
Reflecting back on this project, I wish I had focused a bit more on mistakes and regrets Jeroen had about how he changed his work-life balance throughout the years. I think this would have been much more reflective for him, and it could have helped other people with their personal work-life balance as well. Other than this one change, I felt that the interview went very well, and expressed the unique perspective of Jeroen in a coherent manner. As for the Digital Media parts of my project, I felt they went very well, too. I felt like I did a good job with the Introduction Voiceover and the Introduction Video Production. If I could change one thing about these assignments, I would try to put more work into improving my abilities in After Effects, as I think I probably could have done a better job in that. However, my work with Adobe InDesign for the Magazine Advertisement in my Design class and Documentary Print Production were really good.
Design Advertisement
For Design, my assignment was to create an advertisement for a product related to my English Profile Article. I chose to make an advertisement for soccer balls. I first created my Moodboard, which consisted of the color scheme I would use in my final advertisement, images, and my graphic design element, or GDE. I really enjoyed this part of the project because I was able to use a new program that we hadn’t used a lot before this assignment.
