Zenith Project

The Zenith Project is a cumulative summary of my artistic growth at Freestyle Academy. It is a passion project, one that students choose to do, rather than being assigned something to complete. The word itself, “Zenith,” means prime, essentially. So, it would imply that this project is the best of every student’s work at Freestyle. My Zenith project is a black and white portrait series focusing on the face, hands, and environment. This was a passion project for me because I took inspiration from the biggest inspiration for my artwork since my freshman year, Dawoud Bey’s “Harlem, U.S.A.” series. I considered this project a risk for me because I never ventured far from my home to do my projects in the past. I would do my photo blogs mainly in and around my neighborhood, but for this project, I took off and captured portraits of people in surrounding towns and cities. I talked to strangers, explaining my project, and asking them if I could just take their photograph.
