Research Essay
For English, we were instructed to write a 5-7 page research essay on any current politcal issue we wanted to choose. We had to form and answer a specific research question and find sources to support and/or challenge our argument. research essay of 5-7 pages. I chose to research and write about the General Election in California in November, specifically focusing on the controversy about Proposition 33. This was the proposal for an expansion on local government’s authority to enact rent control on residential property. I chose this topic because I wanted to learn more about the local housing crisis. Surreal Composition Project
In Digital Media, I was instructed to create a surreal composition piece that related to the topic in my English Worldbuiling Research paper. To create this surreal composition, I used Adobe Photoshop. I was inspired by the image of a wave crashing down on a city as a symbol of the growing force of California’s housing crisis—something powerful, rising, and impossible to ignore. I chose to include the moon to hint at the idea of building future cities beyond Earth, while also referencing the natural connection between the moon and ocean tides. Together, they represent a system—one that’s both cyclical and fragile, much like the relationship between people, housing, and the environment.
My artist statement: My inspiration for this project was the world around me, as I included aspects of nature, space, and architecture. I grew artistically by refining my photoshop composition skills and learned how to tell a story through surrealist composite images. I struggled with layering the images and using the brush tool to combine them. In the end, I overcame challenges and I’m proud of the art I made.
World-Building Presentation
In English, we worked in groups to create our World-Builing project. For this project, we created a narrative treatment and a pitch presentation for our story. This project was very collaborative and gave us a lot of creative freedom when making our story, characters, plot, and who/what we were pitching. We presented to the whole class and then in Digital Media, we worked in our groups to make an enhanced video for our presentation.
