Introduction
During the first Narrative project, we worked with a variety of digital mediums that connected our creative work in English to the software skills we developed in Digital Media. The overlap of content between our Freestyle electives allowed us to demonstrate proficiency in academic, technical, and medial literacy skills. Major projects in English that we completed included a narrative story utilizing the structural and linguistic skills exercised both in and outside the class. A collaborative environment paired with real world situations like “writers rooms” encouraged us to think critically about the work of our classmates and our own creative work. Predating the creation of our own narrative story, was a multiple week-long reading of 1984 by George Orwell. Through this assignment we analyzed both literary devices such as repetition, figurative language, simile, and juxtaposition. However, often the conversation led to a more philosophical analysis of our current world, the (debatably) fictional world of 1984, and the historical interpretation of the work as a response to the political climate of Orwells era.
English
In English, we were directed to create a short story, for which I chose to pursue magical realism and commentary about dehumanizing anonymity in the corporate world using a lobster as a vehicle for my message. Through this story, I not only learned a lot about figurative language, but a lot about creativity and originality as a whole. Here is my short story:
Film
In film, we created a short film using the three stages of production. Using storyboards, pitches, weeks and weeks of revision, and three shoots across the course of a month, we had our final film. During this project, I learned a lot about the difficulty of collaborative work and the importance of organization. Here is our final film, and I hope you enjoy.
