Here is where we explore fiction and the graphic novels. We practice the importance of communicating character and story arc. We do all of this using descriptive storytelling, narrative digital art and animation (and films). To do all of this we use a variety of modern professional equipment and applications like the Wacom Digital Drawing Pads, lighting equipment, downshooters, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Animate, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Avid Pro Tools, Propellerhead Reason, HTML/CSS, DragonFrame, and Google Apps.
Story
Production of the short story was pretty fun. I messed around with editing a little bit. I liked the song Sunflower by Post Malone. So I added it as a background music. Overall the short story was a really nice way of showing what I could do with flash fiction. I like my cover art. Since its about ochids, I decided to draw a orchid as a cover.
In the Shadow of Flowers
When Billy Bob was younger his father was never around much, always busy with his own work. Late night talk calls in a dark room with his desk lamp being the only source of light in a very dark room. Billy Bob wasn’t ever allowed in that room. So he very vaguely remembers how it looked. But as a small curious child, he always tried to snoop around that very room. His mother passed when Billy Bob was born so he doesn’t have any recollection of her but Billy’s parents loved gardening. So Billy Bob was always surrounded by gardening tools, flowers and all the very colorful yet dirty and muddy tools outside.
Billy Bob lived in a run down house with musty stains on the thin walls in which he hears his neighbors always arguing. He doesn’t have a job so he struggles to pay the bills. His floor is covered in stains to which he doesn’t know how or what they are. Billy Bob is tired of being so lonely and of his way of living so he needs job opportunities to get out of his current state of living
Billy Bob was applying for a job as a gardener hoping to find some quick cash. Doing something he and his father loved doing together. One of his faint memories came to him later that evening when he was picking up equipment for his new job. He recalled roaming around the dark murky swap and finding beautiful, vibrant singular orchid. Just a single orchid growing inside the dark murky swamp. Surrounded by nothing but tall dark trees and murky water with mud everywhere. He picked the flower. Hoping he could take back to his father and hoping to make him happy. When he came back from the swampish void, he showed his father and his face lit up and tears rolled down his face.
“Your mother always loved these flowers”
He said with a shaky voice, recalling all his loving memories of her.
He wanted to find an orchid to give to his father, to remind him of found memories they had shared with one another. So set out on a journey to find the flower and left his old dusty apartment after snatching his car keys and set off to find a beautiful orchid flower. He tried starting up his old beaten up car but it wouldn’t budge.
“The old thing isn’t working as much as it used to”
He thought to himself as he walked to the nearest bus stop, hoping it would lead him out the neighbourhood and into the big old city. He walked down the smelly and garbage covered streets with a smoggy atmosphere. It was a long journey to the single bus stop but at last, he made it. He stood there waiting patiently for the bus and looked for something to do as he waited. Nearby was a little park, where we found two squirrels rummaging around a bush looking for something it seemed. But as he was walking towards them he saw the bus finally approaching and so he walked away looking back at the two squirrels almost bonking into the bust stop. As it slowly approached he started to wonder what the squirrels were up to. He finally hopped onto the crowded bus and tried to find a seat. It was humid and very hot and not a lot of wiggle room, it was a surprise that he even made it in. There were whispers but mainly made up of silence and the sound of the engine of the bus. An hour passed but they were stopped by a car incident. The crash led to the bus being stopped and so Billy Bob left trying to walk the last mile to find the big city.
“Well, this is going to be a looong walk, but it’ll be worth it”
As he continued walking down the road he finally had hit the bridge where it divides the city and the run down and sad neighborhood he lives in. When crossing the bridge he found a woman who was standing there by the bridge. Curious, he asked her what she was up to.
“Hey, you ok?” He asked her
“Yea I was just staring off into space again and must’ve forgot what I was doing silly me”
Realizing that this is a bad idea he offers her to come along with him to roam the city as he searches for a florist shop. She for some reason agrees to go along with Billy Bob even though hes a complete stranger. They chat and laugh talking about their childhood and find they have a lot in common. They chatted for so long they didn’t realize that they had finally come to the big city.
“I guess this is the part where we part ways” the women says to him with a face of disappointment
“What if it’s not?” Billy Bob says as he shrugs
Not wanting to part ways she smiles and says “Sure. My names Skylor by the way”
Billy Bob realized he never asked for her name; he smiled and introduced himself as well. After that, they walked some more. He finally found the shop and so Billy Bob and Skylor enter and browse around. He finally found the flower, the orchid. Him and Skylor go on and try to find another bus to hopefully make this journey back much faster.
“Why did you need this flower anyway?” She asked
“Its for my dad, I haven’t seen him in a while and maybe this will lighten him up you know?”
“Oh, Are you too close?”
“Not as much as we used to be”
They find a bus stop so they sit there and wait. They continue talking as they have been this entire time. Then finally the bus shows up.
“You coming?” he asked because she stood there
“I never knew my dad, he wasn’t ever around and my life was terrible no knowing him my whole life”
“Well, how bout we go through this together?”
“Yea that works”
They make it to a cemetery and this is where Billy Bob leaves the orchid flowers at a nearby grave.
Illustrations
Illustrator Project – Juiced Up
The final Illustrator project was by far my favorite project we have done because of the freedom with the project. Although we were just thought Adobe Illustrator, It still was interesting trying to use a new software I never used before. Making the experience a lot more interesting.
When first thinking about to what to do for the Illustrator project I had no idea what to do. So I thought about oranges. The reason for it is because its a nickname that kinda stuck with me. Its a online name or alias or whatever you wanna call it but it was the “theme” of my project. So I started making a orange and kept adding on to that. Adding the colors make sure to keep orange and green as the “theme” suggest it to be. It was fun to mess around and make it look like a orange with eyes.
Overall this was a pretty decent project. I liked the final project because it was comfortable and nice the way it was printed nicely on the sweater. I definitely would love to make something else with this even tho illustrator was kinda annoying to use and difficult. But the final outcome made it worth the effort.
Exquisite Corps – Group
I have done a exquisite corpse before. Every time I’ve done this its always been pretty fun. This one was just as cool. I knew these people so it was pretty cool to see their art style. It was also interesting to see it all put together. Especially AJ long cat.

Animation
Group Project – Mole Day
The concept of our group narrative animation was about A gardener is trying to deal with a mole infestation in his garden. He goes on various attempts to get rid of them, such as building a fence, trying to get a bigger mole, and playing an instrument to lure them away. This leads him to eventually discover they are hoarding a treasure. He becomes rich and explodes. Overall, I did like how it turned out and it was a fun experience.
When starting this project, I wasn’t sure how it would work considering I was being partnered up with two other students who have different mindsets on how we will want out project to end up like. When we started the project, it was a really fun process overall. having fun throwing out random ideas for the animations and it was pretty cool seeing how we may not have known each other but we still agreed on this random wacky idea of a story. The project. Well the process, well it was hard. We got it done but like barely did and it was stressful for sure. My job was background and editing. Blanki, the group leader was the animator. Jack, was the colorist. We all had our jobs and we did well. When it came to editing. Let’s just say, it wasn’t easy.
Editing was a really long and time consuming process. Figuring out how everything will turn out in the end is a big step. Finding aspects to use like sounds, music, effects. Picking what should go where. How this would look. We did have a bit of a issue with the animation when bringing it to Adobe After Effects. It was a big issue which gave us a slight step back in the project but we managed to fix it and it turned out ok.
I will say this, overall this was a fun project and really a really interesting process considering we were forced into a group of different people we may not know. But I really think my group did really well and even with the mess ups, we managed. I really like how the final thing turned out and it was a fun (and stressful) experience. Will I do this again? Ye.
Lip Sync
Lip sync was a project were we had to take a “character” and make a bunch of mouth parts so sync it up and make it look like the animation is talking. I really did like how the project worked out. Just like every other project, I had no Idea what to do for the project. I was thinking of a song but didn’t know what song to do. I eventually decided to do with Maps by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The reason for it, I don’t know it was just funny and I thought it would be funny.
I choose to make it a Freddy Fazbear plush that I drew for some reason in class for a prior project. Wasn’t for the project at all but I was playing around. It was very painful to sync up every mouth part. The drawing was very easy and I did like how it ended up. I chose Maps by Yeah Yeah Yeahs because it was a funny trend to dance to the song. Making Freddy do that dance was pretty cool.
After it all, I do like the end result of it. I really do think that the overall drawing portion of it was pretty good and I wish I could’ve synced up the mouth to the song better but its a ok job for the first time.
Walk Cycle
The puppet walk was painful to shoot because of the frame by frame shots, plus the puppet keep on falling over and over. All I can say is that the puppet project was fun to make, stressful to shoot. I really like creating things from scratch, The puppet was a really fun thing to do. When we first created it I had no idea what to do. I had something in mind which was Marvel’s Doctor Doom. Which is why he has a cape and the belt. At the end of the project, I think it was ok. I definitely could’ve done better
While shooting the walk cycle, it really was a pain in the butt. Because of how many time it fell and because of how many times I shot a frame but my hand was in it so I had to redo the shot and well it was overall painful. The design was quite simple and it didn’t take much thought. When “editing” it (making a the cycle video) I wanted a ice theme-ish thing so I have a ice background and the music is from the Super Mario Bros. Wii Ice world music.
I do think the the ice background w/ the ice music from Mario made the cycle better? Now what does the character have to do with ice? Absolutely nothing. I just found the ice background and thought immediately of my favorite soundtrack from Super Mario Bro.
