Welcome to my page! My name is Samay Shanmugham and I’m a Design student at Freestyle Academy. Outside of school and Freestyle, I’m an active member of my community and participate in a multitude of extracurricular activities. I’m passionate about finance, golf, mixing music, and creating digital art—interests that keep me curious, creative, and engaged in and out of the classroom.

For my showcase project, I wanted to feature a project that I was proud of and that represented my time at Freestyle. Because of its interdisciplinary nature, many of my Freestyle projects have overlapping elements from my three classes: English, Digital Media, and Design. Ultimately, I decided on my Narrative Book Jacket project because it was based on work done in both English and Design, and I’m proud of how it turned out.

Reel

My reel features a variety of projects from my junior and senior years at Freestyle. I chose projects that demonstrated a range of my work. The works in this video were made using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, and the video was produced in After Effects.

In the past two years, I’ve grown tremendously as a creative thinker and visual storyteller. Freestyle has given me the freedom to explore a wide range of artistic disciplines—from digital art to music production—and that creative exploration has become a defining part of who I am. Next year, I’ll be attending Indiana University Bloomington to study finance, and I truly believe the creative mindset I developed at Freestyle will set me apart. Whether I’m analyzing markets, building business strategies, or designing presentations, the ability to think visually, tell compelling stories, and approach problems from unique angles will be invaluable. Freestyle has equipped me with not only technical skills but also confidence in my creative potential, and I feel ready and excited for the next chapter.
