Podcast

Introduction

The podcast unit was a relaxing set of lessons on podcasting – a new form of media that is gaining serious momentum of popularity.

I worked with Nisha Malley to create our podcast, “Freestyle Feels,” where we interviewed fellow seniors to discuss and reflect on our two years at Freestyle Academy. Our goal was to provide an episode that reflected where we were in our lives with our Freestyle “careers” coming to an end as well as to provide a resource for future Freestyle juniors and seniors to gain more insight into the program as some of the students from the class of 2019 experienced it.

English

In English, we listened to and analyzed a handful of podcasts provided by Mr. Greco as well as of our own choosing, to learn about the different ways to produce a podcast. We subsequently had to brainstorm in order to produce a podcast of our own. My partner Nisha and I originally wanted to do a political podcast called “Politicking,” where we would discuss the 2020 presidential race and the current candidates, however, we realized that in order to truly do the serious subject justice, we would need to do a lot of research that we did not have time for, so we set our love of discussing politics and current events aside to talk about something that was equally meaningful, but within our specific Freestyle community.

Digital Media

To produce our podcast, we recorded with a special 360-degree recording mic in the Freestyle music studio and then Nisha put the audio together in Pro Tools.

To create the cover art, used Adobe Illustrator to combine gradients in the color of Freestyle’s current logo with a vintage display font that represented the light emotional tone of our episode.
