Starting off our senior year at freestyle, we began a unique set of projects. The theme of these was the central question of “Who am I?”, with each separate class tackling it a slightly different way. In Film, we made 2 minute personal essays that were meant to capture a specific part of ourselves and represent it in a visual way. In English, we had the choice to write a personal essay, either for college applications or for ourselves. And In Digital Media we worked on both a mandala and a video of our core values to represent ourselves.
Throughout this unit, I feel as if I managed to figure out a little bit more about myself with each project. With English, writing about my struggles with knowledge gave me a better perspective on it, especially when I shared it with others. In Film, I also got a better understanding on my indecisiveness and how it has affected me. Digital Media went for a different direction yet still was fun and a bit introspective to think of some core values for myself.
Core Values
The basic premise for this was to make a video with at least 7 of our ‘core values’, and use different effects in Adobe After Effects to animate the text. It was a fun small project and I learned a lot on how to use After Effects for text animation and a few other things.

Personal Essay
In English, we were tasked with writing up an essay, for college or for ourselves. I hadn’t written my college application essay yet so that’s what I went with. Before actually writing the full essay, we went through the process of figuring out what to write about ourselves, by going through our personal values and how they relate to what we want to do in college. After that, we drafted a few times, refining out our stories and the relevance of them, before finally writing the full draft. Mine ended up being about my struggle with the internet and wanting to know things I wasn’t prepared for. I would say the end result encapsulated how I felt pretty well, and I’m happy with the final draft.
Film
In Film, we did a lot of different things both in preparation for the reflections and after to prepare for our narrative project. For before, we were told to make a short video within a single class period, as a sort of warm up to get back into filming at the beginning of the year.
After that, we worked on our reflections where we would write an essay and then read it as audio. We would then take that audio about ourselves and make a video related to it, that had to be exactly 2 minutes long.

After that, we did a bit of practice with surround sound, testing out how to make the audio jump from ear to ear.
And finally we did a 3 day activity where we would make a storyboard, then give that one to another group and film footage for a different group’s storyboard, and then finally edit a different group’s footage.
