A diptych is a collage of two images grouped together in a way that symbolzes a theme or meaning.
The goal of this assignment was to create a product that illustrates a lesser known quality about ourselves. While creating our diptych, we were to take into account environment, lighting, and angle to help create symbolism in our pictures.
Artist Statement
Through my diptych, I was communicating one of my lesser known qualities:that I am a lazy perfectionist. The way that I envisioned this idea was by brainstorming any characteristics that people might not know about me and then thinking ahead to how I was going to portray it in my diptych. Throughout the entire process, my ideas did change as I pondered over which idea best expresses something not known about me. While making this diptych, I feel like I did take a risk as I can only hope that the viewer can look at my two photos and relate them to the characteristic about myself.
While crafting this piece, we first set out to take 60 pictures using our cameras that could potentially be used in our diptych. After taking those pictures, we thinned out all the pictures that we weren’t going to use until we were left with the two photos that would be in our diptych. With the pictures chosen, we then imported them into Photoshop, where we applied different photo filters until we acquired the desired look for our diptych. The main challenge I faced while doing this was creating good lighting for my pictures, as in many of my pictures the lighting was either too bright or too dark. Some of the technical risks I took was applying different filters to my pictures, however I believe that the risk paid off as I feel as though my finished product came out nicely.
