Hello Hello! My name is William Sigunov and I’m an animation student at Freestyle Academy. During my two years in the program, I’ve improved and refined my animation skills along with voice acting, video editing, storytelling and strengthening the understanding of fundamentals of art and design.

I also have a passion for studying history and great appreciation of video games, though, the latter I don’t get to enjoy so often as most of my free time is really spent on my personal behemoth project – Perception Sorcery.

For my Senior Showcase I present to you my Junior Documentary and the Senior Zenith projects along with my animation reel. Both of these are solo productions.

The Junior Documentary project was based on an interview with a musician about her life and the challenge consisted of conveying the story through unique and compelling visuals. It also contains one of my most complicated animated sequences to date. The very limited color scheme was an interesting choice that I am, nonetheless, proud of as it makes the production look unique.

The Senior Zenith project is a YouTube channel trailer for Perception Sorcery the primary goal of which was to introduce the project in a unique, compelling, and, most importantly, entertaining way. It provided a unique challenge as I had to work with animating a dialogue between two characters, and while script writing comes to me naturally, animating two characters talking in a visually interesting way was definitely a challenge.

Since you are an animation industry professional, I would love some feedback on visual storytelling. Were the ideas present on screen clear? Were the visual storytelling choices unique, and were they effective? Tell me about the animation quality proper and how the movement complemented the story of the piece and how it could’ve helped communicate the story better.

After Freestyle Academy I plan on going to the De Anza College and then transferring to a four-year art university. At De Anza, during my free time, I plan on taking Perception Sorcery to the next level while improving my animation, visual storytelling, and sound design.

This is a selection of my proudest animation work from both assignments and personal work set to a piece of music I made. It is essentially a collection of highlights of the last two years.

For this project, I focused on using inventive ways to communicate messages with visuals and strengthen the spoken word.

The sequence in the middle with the big group of people especially, is one of my proudest animation sequences and it was a big accomplishment in my opinion to organize the layers in such a way that made it easy for me to concentrate on the animation proper.
