For the narrative illustration project I was required to make a drawing that somehow related to my short story. I immediately thought of having hands holding the knife and blade which were featured at the end of my story. After a few weeks, though, I thought of having it appear as if the hands were reflected off of sunglasses. Soon after that I added the blood dripping off the knife and the tears falling down the mask. Finally, I added the color on the glasses and the pattern in the background. If you look closely you will notice a subtle texture.

 

 

 

Life's Reflection

 

This image is supposed to be seen through the eyes of someone looking at the reflection on someone's sunglasses. The picture with the hands holding a mask and knife is from the end of my narrative story in which the main character comes to the realization that he is a serial killer.

I added the knife dripping blood and the mask crying onto the sunglasses to show that one side of him is a murderer but the other is feeling remorseful for doing what he did. The mellow brown pattern in the background helps to bring out the bright green used in the rims of the sunglasses. These earth tones create a feeling of growth and symbolize life which is a strong theme in this piece.
