Narrative 2.0

Overview

The goal of the book jacket was to imitate the format of an actual book jacket and apply our narrative story form English visually to a cover. With different art pieces from these two programs, I combined them into Indesign which had a book jacket template. As for the surreal project, I went beyond my boundaries of imagination using any Adobe programs and artistic techniques I wanted to use.

Book Jacket

My book jacket concept was a cover folded into 4 sections. A front and back cover, side flaps, and also the title and genre on the sides. The art on this book jacket is reflective of my narrative story and my experience was quite extraordinary.  I drew a rose and included graphic brushes and texture throughout the cover to represent the theme of suspenseful drama. My color theme was maroon and shades of red to show romance. I used custom brushes in Adobe Photoshop and pencil tool tracing in Illustrator. I learned a lot of tools in Photoshop that I can use in the future with other projects.

Surreal Piece

I learn an exceeding amount of skills and techniques from the surreal unit. Using Photoshop, I learned how to use masking for textures and objects. This allowed me to make a overlay of texture look realistic. Our goal was to create a dream-like world and narrative that has no correlation to any possible events in reality. My experience during this project was phenomenal. I ventured into the depths of  HDR photography and opened up a whole new level of artistic photos. I had the freedom to take pictures of anything I could and when I converted the three photos of different exposures into an HDR photo. The result was a picture with different levels of light and shadows that essentially unlocked the limitation of the camera to see light. I really enjoyed the amount of creativity needed to create surreal artwork.
