Humor

Intro

As our last unit in English came to an end, our teacher Mr. Greco challenged us to create a project based on humor. To prepare us for our project, our class read Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, a book that highlights the essence of war and life but was portrayed through different types of humor. We learned more about black humor, exaggeration, irony, and many more comedic tools as we analyzed the book. We used these comedic techniques and wrote a study on two humorists. We compared both artists and concluded how they influenced our project, what we liked or didn’t like, and how we could incorporate their techniques into our project.

After analyzing our chosen comedic artists, August and I thought about different ways we would show off all these other comedic techniques. We then came up with an idea to do a live skit performance. Below is our script (the first two pages made it to our performance).

Reflection

This unit of English was super fun. The process of making this was extremely fun and also relaxing because it was so enjoyable. Presenting and watching others present their project was also a very enjoyable experience. I would definitely do it again if I ever had the chance. Everyone has their own sense of humor and unique way of presenting a joke, so watching everyone else’s project was exciting and entertaining.
