Showcase

Hi Everyone!

As you probably know, my name is Alex Wong and I’m a student at Freestyle Academy. I have been attending Freestyle since the beginning of Junior year of high school.

The first project that I would like to showcase is my experimental film, the very first assignment that I was tasked to do in Film, at the start of Junior Year. This is when we were just learning how to use our cameras and basic editing in premiere, since it was the first project that we had done.

Looking back at this project, I feel like I have grown a lot as a filmmaker and student since then. I vividly remember that the first time I tried to film, I had my aperture so high that when I turned in my dailies, you could see nothing but black. I was pretty embarrassed, and had to do the whole thing over again. This was back when I barely knew how to use my camera, and everything that I shot looked terrible. My overall idea was pretty terrible when it came to getting the message “Feeling overwhelmed through the experience of loss,” across to the viewers.

The second film that I wanted to showcase was my senior narrative. I believe that this showcases my best film talent, being the longest, largest, and beefiest project that I’ve ever done at Freestyle. It required a lot, and I mean a lot, of work. We spent many nights filming at 2am in San Jose just to get the shots and scenes that we needed. The amount of editing, decision making, and production is crazy to think about now that I have completed the project.

Looking back at my Freestyle Experience, I’m really glad that I decided to enroll in this program. I felt that I have grown more as a student, and learned a lot of very valuable lessons along the way. For example, realizing that you cant procrastinate on Blend Modes, that we all need each others help, and other skills like time management and responsibility. I’ve grown in many more ways than just as a digital art student, and I’m proud of what I’ve done in these past two years. Thank you, Freestyle.
