Recording and composing
Introduction
In the music recording and experimental music project, we learned several things: 1. Usage of Pro Tools to work on sound and music. 2. Learn how to use the recording studio to make music. 3. Have fun!
For the recording project, I decided to do a modern take on Herbie Hancock’s Jazz standard: “Watermelon Man” I recorded myself on Tenor Sax and my friend Gabe on Bari Sax

Experimental music
For the experimental music project, we were tasked with making an ORIGINAL composition on Pro Tools. We mainly used electronic MIDI instruments for this project, meaning that no acoustic sound was recorded. For my beat, I took inspiration from the beat of “Green Onions” by Booker T and the MGs, and overlaid some classic 12 bar blues in b flat over that. The melody was improvised on keyboard across several takes, along with some solos. I then put a walking bassline over that. I am most proud of being able to make an all original rhythm section, since I mostly main tenor sax, so making a good backing was a new for me.
