Introduction

Throughout this unit, I was able to use many programs that allowed me to delve into the more creative side of education. For instance, I have been exposed to software like Avid Pro Tools, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Photoshop. Not only have I used many programs, I have also been granted access to several high-quality items such as a tripod, a DSLR Camera, an audio recorder, and camera reflectors. Throughout this unit, I was able to understand more about filmmaking, for example. In our film class, by using information we learned this unit in Digital Media, we were able to create experimental films that helped me understand the challenges and benefits of filmmaking. In English, our class made several poems which I enjoyed very much. The creation of these poems was very important to me.

Poetry

But a Fleck of Dirt

In our English class, we were introduced to different types of poetry that have been and are prevalent in society. Though I had never learned about some of these types of poems, it was interesting to understand the origins and how they have been used throughout history. We also covered Haiku poems, and I was opened to a new perspective on how to write more effective and meaningful poems.

Photo Haiku

At the beginning of this assignment, we chose intention statements that related to a random topic, and we created haikus around the topic that we chose. For English, we took photos that we thought related to the topic in some way and wrote haikus relating to the topic. In Digital Media, we created a video that captured both the spoken and written haiku.

This screenshot shows the parts that were used to create my Photo Haiku video on Premiere Pro.

Throughout this unit, I have valued the skills I have learned in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Pro Tools. Just by creating this Haiku Video, I have learned many things that I never knew about these incredibly useful softwares.

Elements & Principles of Art

The point of this assignment was to show the different types of elements and principles of art through several slides in a presentation. We used images to show how these elements and principles have been used throughout history and how they have developed with time, from traditional to modern art.

Experimental Film

The assignment that our film class had to create for the experimental film was to create a film that related closely to our concept statement. We used Premiere Pro in order to compile several clips and edit them together to create a somewhat concise but creative film. I put the production together by adding many transitions and using different types of clips. In addition, I used Adobe After Effects in order to do some more detailed effects in some of the clips.

In the production of this film, I extremely enjoyed being able to have the freedom to create it however I wanted to. Using this freedom, I was able to add weird effects that I wouldn’t usually be able to use in a “normal” film. I also really enjoyed being able to convert my concept statement into a film in addition to a picture and a poem.
