Our neighbors are currently in the process of moving out, and soon somebody new will move in to take their place. I took this opportunity to capture the in-between moments, when the new owner is unknown, a stranger.

To me, serenity can either mean being cozied up indoors on a cold evening, or relaxing outdoors in the shade. As it was a lovely day out, I chose to depict the latter, capturing the sunlight peeking through the leaves of a tree in our side yard as I sat on the rope swing attached to said tree.

In using the rule of odds, I arranged a large succulent pot alongside a few smaller ones, keeping them grouped in odd numbers, one and three respectively.

To depict age, I chose to photograph the worn surface of an old desk we have, in extreme close-up, to show the scuffs and scrapes from years of use.

For this no-limits assignment, I photographed a globe and decorative suitcase, as I love traveling and wanted to represent that in a photo. As per this week’s rules, I shot this as flat as possible with no white balance changes or color touchups.

Here I photographed the negative space in the wall behind an empty shelf. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to reach the height of the empty shelf and still get a well-focused shot. Here you can see the blur from the camera not being held steady enough. In hindsight, I should have taken the time to clear out one of the closer shelves.

This photo is of the shadow of a set of chimes we have hanging on our front door. This shot was far more difficult to to get than I thought, as I had to block out the ambient light and hold my phone’s flashlight from above, while still balancing and keeping the camera steady. I think it turned out alright.

I thought that a computer mouse was appropriate for this week, to represent online anonymity. On the internet, there is a separation from how one would act in real life. The screen gives a sort of barrier which makes people feel protected and more willing to act maliciously.

Here I placed a vade of withering flowers in a dark spot by a window to emphasize the feeling of loneliness. I also chose a spot that had a dividing line along the center to fit this week’s theme.

For this prompt, I chose a pile of LEGO bricks, because I love building with them, and a pile of assorted elements is perfect for creating anything new that you would like.
