Trash

For this photo, I decided the best place to look for trash with a story was underneath the couch. Our cats constantly push things under here, and then spend hours lying on the floor staring at them. The dark and dusty scene gives an aura of abandonment and forgottenness here.

Holiday Balance

This photo is rather strange. Earlier this month, after setting up the nativity scene we do every year, I snuck a model DeLorean Time Machine into the diorama, in reference to Back to the Future. It made for an interesting contrast when photographed, having the traditional Christmas scene interrupted by a steel time machine.

Gift

This photo was taken after we gave my cat, Nickel, a gift: a tiny knitted scarf. While he was trying it on, he went and sat under the Christmas tree (A spot our cats enjoy often) and I was able to capture this adorable moment of our cat, whom we consider to be a gift in his own right, wearing his gift under the tree!

White Balance

In this photo, I set the camera’s white balance to fluorescent white, to give the scene a warmer tint. This effectively gives a feeling of heat and dryness, turning Autumn into Summer out my window.

Leading Lines

Here you see our piano, photographed with a wide aperture so that the lines of the keys melt into a sort of linear black and white blur. While I think the shallow depth of field looks good, had I done this assignment again, I would have had more of the piano in focus to emphasize the receding lines more.

Love Story

To tell a love story, I photographed two teddy bears wearing matching winter outfits that he have perched on a windowsill in our living room. The light coming through from the out-of-focus outside gives a softness and brightness to the scene that I liked.

Weight and Mass

This shot shows a stack of Christmas decoration bins, as seen from a low angle to give a sense of size compared to the viewer. I chose these bins because I had to be very careful and use a lot of effort to bring them down the attic ladder, so the sense of mass I get stems from that.

Symmetry Landscape

I took this photo after tech crew rehearsals. My brother and I were walking across the field to go watch the football game while waiting to be picked up, and I took the opportunity to take this wonderfully symmetrical shot!

Warmth

For this photo showing warmth, I took a picture of our small side Christmas tree, whose lights give a more orange glow. I used a blanket to cover the window and ensure darkness in the background and that the main light source was the tree.

Mood

1/13 – 4.5 – 6400

The mood I am portraying in this photo is coziness, warmth, and softness. I had holiday lights placed around my sleeping cat Dime, with the warmer reds and yellows at the front, to create a small space which almost feels like firelight. The white and blue lights in the back represent the cold outside which the warmth is protecting against.
