An animatic is basically an outline for an animation, much like you would do an outline for an essay. An animatic is handy because it gives a realisitic idea of what can be done instead of what you want to have happen. Some things don't get cut until the aniation actually happens, so you may notice some scenes from the animatic are not part of the animation.
