Introduction to the Project

Here we are, at long last. The final elective project for Freestyle Academy. This final challenge we were given is to create anything we wanted the is related to our elective while learning one new thing along the way. In a way it could be related to the Exploration’s project from last year, however we won’t have next year to make something better. Now then, let me tell you what my final project was.

For this project, I decided to re-create a scene from my favorite horror game series. Yes yes, I know what you might be thinkin’, another Bendy project Chance? Well get off my case bro! I like Bendy, and I hope to get hired at “Joey Drew Studios” to help them make more games. Anyway, I really wanted to re-create a specific scene from the first game, relating to a certain character named “Sammy Lawrence” except the difference would be it would be replaced with my own OC – “Original Character” from the game. And I would animate the scene and make it my own based on if my character was in the game. So I wanted to make this as creepy and eerie as I possibly could, that could be considered something new that I wanted to learn.

First I needed a drawing of my character in a T-Pose position in a front and side view. Easy enough; Next was to take that and import it into Maya. Than came to the modeling part. It took me a good while to get the shape right, but I managed in the end. Next was ZBrush, and this took me WAY longer than I want to admit. (I even went back in and changed it when I was close to finishing the project) But again, I got through it. Lastly was Substance painter, which I rather enjoyed, it was the part where my character really started to come to life. After all of that, I can definitely say I am proficient with all of these applications, and I always will have Freestyle to thank for that <3

The Very Beginning

The first step was to make a drawing of my character with a front and side view, one of my friends drew the design for me which was very awesome of her to do since her art style was cleaner than mine. What I then did was put that drawing on in image plane in the Maya application. After that was the very rough building of the character; basically getting the basic shape of the character in place.
