Seperation By Music

Enire Family

For this assignment, we were told to make a dyptich, or two pictures that are place adjescent to each other which work together to portray a point.

To symbolize myself, I realized that I wanted to portray my aspirations to separate my
self from the cliches that most put themselves in. To show my need for individuality, I portrayed my taste in music, and I how I don’t listen to music simply because everybody else does, but because it interests me. To show how many listen to the music that is mainstream and doesn’t really help one to express themselves, I took a picture of two of my friends holding ipods with cliche music album covers showing on their screens. I believe this shows how many don’t attempt to express themselves by being unique, because they hear what their friends listen to and listen to it, not because the music is played well or because it is expressive music, butbecause it is what everybody is listening to. I chose to have the setting as a school because it is where many students hear about the mainstream music that is listened to by the majority of the school.

In order to portray how I visualize myself, I took a picture of my dad with an old Boston
vinyl LP. I think this portrays how I view myself as an individual because I feel that most people don’t listen to music with alot of musical talent. I think this because making a beat and simply talking in time is not an impossible task by any means, but making music for several different instruments that all come together to form music that has meaning. I took this picture looking out
onto the outdoors to give it a majestic look, showing that if u think as an individual and listen to the music you feel expresses you, you will be able to form an identity for yourself. Whereas the people who choose to listen to mainstream junk, formulate their identity based off of what they
hear.
