Humor

Introduction

This year at freestyle we explored the power of humor. To help better understand different humor techniques we read books like The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde, Slaughterhouse-five by Kurt Vonnegut, and Rhinoceros by EugĂ©ne Lonesco.

Comedic Inspirations

In order to gain more insight, we were also instructed to research two more comedians and their special techniques that make their audiences laugh. My two inspirations were John Mulaney and an SNL skit that had a similar idea to mine. I chose to research John Mulaney because he is my favorite stand-up comedian. He has extremely quick wit and used to be a skit writer for SNL. The SNL skit that inspired me was over exaggerated and filled with satire.

My Process

For my Humor Project, I tried to recreate my own exaggerated medicine commercial. I made up my own allergy medication and named it, Allergia. It was pretty amusing to list a bunch of crazy side effects like they do in the real commercials. Overall, it was a really fun project and I learned a lot about different types of techniques in humor.
