In documentary writing, I brought attention to storytelling in the real world by interviewing actual people while representing βInside the Mind of an Art Teacher in the Age of AI.βΒ Experiences with AI in the world of art and difficulty. My documentary project was about teachers in the age of AI, and that is how some economic pressure limited them and affected the process of traditional art. I also wrote about their personal stories, how they became an art teacher in the first place, and how they are able to continue traditional art while AI takes over.

In English, we focus on writing our text for our documentary book and also the magazine. While writing my text for the production I struggled with in this project is fitting everything that I want to write into my book without writing too much. Being able to write enough to fit the magazine and also fit the book. Another thing was finding stuff to write about and being able to add one and have a transition on it. Since the magazine was shorter than the book, I had to cut down chapter two a lot and remove a lot to fit my writing, and I had to add transitions so the three chapters could turn into one to make it feel like it’s one chapter the whole time.
In Digital Media, we would use Adobe InDesign to put all our text from English and the GDE that we created to create our magazine. Something that I struggled with was being able to fit my GDE while keeping all my text in. Another thing was the limit on how many images I was able to put in since I had the perfect amount of text. I enjoy making the magazine because I was another that I was able to publish with my own art and writing.

In Design, we are assigned to create a book with the text that we have from English. We were first assigned to create three GDEs for our book, and they should be unique to our topics. Then we went out and took a lot of different photos that we can use for our book. When we had everything, we started working on the book in InDesign and added everything we wanted on it while completing the requirements. After that, we sent it to Blur and got our books printed.

MaiLee Vang did not originally plan to become an art teacher; her goal was to become a professional artist. She had an interest in childrenβs psychology and early childhood development, which led her to work with children as a tennis instructor. Over time, she realized that her experience in both art and working with kids naturally aligned, leading her toward teaching art. She explained, βI didnβt want to become an art teacher. I wanted to just become an artist. But I also talked about teaching tennis for a while, and I wanted to go to school for early childhood development and childrenβs psychology. Eventually, it just kind of made sense to work as an art teacher because Iβm already doing art and had worked with kids before, so it all came together.β She found that teaching allowed her to combine her interests in art and working with children, which ultimately shaped her career path.

Jaia Linden-Engel became an art teacher at Artworks shortly after graduating from college. It was her first job, and she was able to secure the position through a recommendation from someone already working there. She explained that her interest in teaching came from her enjoyment of working with children, including her niece and nephews, as well as her previous experience teaching art at summer camps during high school. She stated, βI like teaching kids. I have a little niece and nephew that I just really love hanging out with. I used to be an art teacher at summer camp throughout high school, so this was kind of what I was used to doing. And there arenβt a lot of jobs for artists that can support you full-time right out of school.β She felt that the job was a natural fit, as her skills and background aligned well with the position.

I’m proud of doing this project because I was able to create my own piece with my own design and also write, and it allowed me to create something that was related to me. It was a good goodbye gift to ArtWorks, and it allowed me to be there for 9 years and have been treating me so well. This project also allowed me to learn more about Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. It also allowed me to learn Adobe InDesign.
