Humor

This unit we had to create some sort of humor project. We read a book, wrote about some guys, and made some stuff. I enjoyed this unit as we got to take a deeper look into different types of humor, from standup to literature.

I originally wanted to do a standup routine, but due to the current pandemic, I felt like doing a comedic narrative instead (and base it off said pandemic).

Humor proposal

We were asked to write an analysis of two professional humorists, and explain how they would influence our upcoming project.

Project Script

Sad classical music is playing in the background at a low volume.

The main character walks into a grocery store, looks at her grocery list.

“Alright, what did I need, hand soap”

She goes to the aisle where hand soap would be found, but the shelf is empty. All she can find is body wash, and so she reluctantly takes that.

“Oh I guess since… Alright, three dollars, I guess that’s reasonable”

She then looks at the list again and sighs.

“Toilet paper”

She walks over to another empty shelf and looks around, and manages to find one roll of toilet paper.

“Oh, I mean, nice I guess”

She looks at the price tag.

“Five dollars? That’s a bit much”

She looks around for a second.

“I don’t have much choice though do I”

She looks at the list again and starts walking.

“I wonder if, oh, wow!”

She reaches for and has to wrestle someone for a big to get the last face mask off the shelf.

“But six dollars for a single one time use mask?”

She sighs and takes the mask as well. A then walks over to the cashier, where the cashier begins to scan her items.

“That’ll be eleven dollars”

She digs in her pockets and pulls out a bill.

“Sorry, I only have a fifty dollar bill”

She gives it to the cashier, who then places 75 cents in her hand. She stares at the cashier who is staring at her with a deadpan face. The sad classical music in the background starts playing louder.

“That was a fifty dollar bill”

She starts packing her items into her bag.

“It was a fifty dollar bill right?”

The cashier keeps staring at her until she leaves the store, but even at the door she mentions the bill.

“Fifty dollars…”

The main character leaves the scene and the camera zooms into the cashier’s face, still staring into nothingness. The background music has gotten loud yet again.
