Explorations

Introduction

For the explorations project, we were challenged to explore a passion that relates to our focus elective. This skill needs to address one of freestyle’s 21st Century Skills.

I have already been good at story, but through this project, I was hoping to learn how to make a more aesthetically pleasing film. That has never been my strong suit. Through my films so far, I have taken on the roles of director and storyteller. Through this film, I hoped to challenge myself to learn how to bring my imagination to life with camera work.

Once I came up with my idea, I started filming right away. That night I created inspiration boards to give me and others an idea of my direction.

I then went to craft shops and other stores to buy supplies. That weekend I started filming with my best friend, Sydney Johnsen…

Infographic:

In English and Digital Media, we were asked to gather research about our exploration topic to create an easily understood infographic displaying our findings and answering three leading questions.

Reflection:

This explorations project challenged me to go beyond story and planning and to put effort into aesthetics. Beauty in film has never been my strong suit and an understanding of color usage in the film will only help me strengthen my films in the future.

Following our many lessons on Reason and Protools (see audio projects), we were asked to make our own song using one of those programs with limited constraints and to then make album art for our song.

At the end of the unit, we were tasked with developing a presentation to present to the entire junior class, presenting what we have studied through the unit and show our final product.
