Explorations

If you were given the freedom to study a topic for a project, what would you choose? That is the question we were given for the explorations unit. The only limitation we had is that we had to relate it to one of the critical eight 21st century skills. I decided to choose self direction(setting a goal and working towards it) and visual literacy(being able to translate thoughts into an art piece).

Project

For my project, I decided to practice figure drawing, with the goal in mind being drawing a person dancing. I wanted to learn this because I felt that learning how to draw human proportions and people in different poses would be a useful skill to know in animation and drawing in general. I also have created some characters that I would like to draw and I think drawing more figures will help me to get them to look anatomically correct. For most of the project I just did sketches and practice.

For my final picture, as planned, I took a picture of someone dancing and tried to replicate it. I then wanted to go a step farther and turn the sketch into a real drawing. I decided to take a character, Mondo Owada, from a video game(Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc) and use that as a second reference to create the final picture. Overall, I am pretty happy with the results, I think the pose was shown well but the proportions could use some work.

Experimental Music

For our final project in Digital Media, we created an experimental piece of music using the MIDI tools and our digital piano keyboard in Pro Tools. I lack music experience, so I mostly just played random notes. Even so, it was fun to make. I used a piano, harp, and guitar as my instruments.
