The zenith project is our final project at Freestyle, intended to be the pinnacle of achievement for our experience, hence the name “Zenith”. It’s much like Explorations from last year, as we can choose whatever we want to do for our project, as long as it somehow relates to what we’ve been learning.

For my project I chose to make a vtuber avatar, which is a 3d (or 2d) model that can be used alongside face tracking to make the model essentially do what you do. I will be using my 3d sculpting skills to add onto the base model. I didn’t really have any ideas of what I wanted to make, so I just kind of made up the design as I went along.

To complete this project, I used a total of 5 different pieces of software:

  • Vroid Studio – to make the base model, hair, and expressions (I’m not making a human mesh from scratch, too much work)
  • Krita – for some texture editing
  • Blender – for additional sculpting and mesh editing
  • Unity – to put everything together and add effects
  • VSeeFace – to actually use the model

Here’s some screenshots of progress over the course of the project. (yes the gallery sizing is weird, I have no idea how to fix it)

And here’s the final result, with a more in depth look at some of the things I did!
