Explorations

My Explorations project is 360 artwork. I chose this topic because I wanted to improve my background drawing abilities, 360 artwork requires a lot of understanding of perspective. There is many possibilities with 360 imaging, it can be used for VR games, virtual tours, it can be animated in After Effects. Drawing in 360 required a lot of understanding the equirectangular grid and drawing perspectives according to it, and then using a computer program like photoshop to map it out.

The grid below is an equirectangular grid, when mapped out in a panorama it becomes an immersive experience.

This is the second drawing that I’ve done in 360, I drew a local ramen shop based off of pictures of it’s interior that I already had in my phone. I didn’t have pictures of some spots so I had to improvise some areas.

This was the first 360 drawing that I made, I like the result less than the second 360 drawing I did. I aimed to draw a room with some weird aspects in it like the moon and random placement of household objects. I think this first drawing didn’t turn out as well because it was the first time I’ve tried to do a full 360 immersive background and color and paint it too. I think it was a good trial, and like all things it takes practice. What I learned from my mistakes while doing this artwork will help me plan and create better VR art in the future.
