Conceptual

Introduction

While working on my conceptual projects, I learned how to create things that are more abstract than I usually would. I was tasked to create artwork without sticking to the typical norms of what art should be. Creating these projects, I learned how to use many different tools to create my art. Within my first week of classes at Freestyle, I realized how much I like being at an art school. We are pushed to do the best we can and learn and grow through trying new things. Learning how to use different software in Digital Media was so helpful, it was such a unique experience to be able to learn all this Adobe software in depth. Being in an English class that is creatively focused was a big change from my English class last year. I had so much fun being able to express my own creativity and voice in my writing.

Experimental Film

In Film class, we were prompted to create a short experimental film based on two concepts. We received our prompts, pitched our ideas, workshopped our ideas, filmed dailies, got feedback on rough cuts, and finally presented our project. It was my first time doing all of these steps to create a film. At some moments I had to push myself creatively and work harder than usual to get the product I wanted. Because of this project, I have learned more about making films and more about myself as a creator.

Art Reflection

On our first week at Freestyle, we took a field trip to the SFMoMA. We each picked a piece of art to spend. couple minutes with and write how we felt looking at the art. We revised our writing with the help of our classmates, and finally cerated a short video to display our writing and the picture of the piece of art.

Parody Introduction

To create this parody song, I found a nostalgic song from when I was younger to write alternative lyrics to. I was struggling to think of what I wanted to write about, so I chose something current. After I finished writing, I recorded it using Adobe Audition. After recording, I made slight changes to exercise my new knowledge of Adobe Audition and to make it sound the way I wanted it to sound.

This is a parody of Drag Me Down by One Direction. To write this parody, I took inspiration from the shock of how much more difficult the workload is junior year compared to sophomore year. To create this parody I learned how to use Adobe Audition and operate recording hardware. I developed a new skill set learning Adobe Audition.

The focus of my piece is the experience of procrastinating on an assignment and waiting until the last minute to do all the work, then regretting it. Many nights I’ve stayed up late working on an assignment.

While doing this project, I gained a better understanding of creating music. I had never written a song or recorded myself singing, so this was a very new thing for me. Singing is not something I’m used to doing, except around my friends. This project where I record myself singing and anyone can listen to it, was a challenge in terms of confidence, but I am proud of myself for doing it anyway. I felt a little nervous at first, but now I am glad that I went out of my comfort zone and did this project. Now I have the skills to use this software on future projects. My lack of knowledge on editing music will no longer hold me back now that I have done this project.
