For the music recording project we learned how to use the recording studio with Mr. Flo and brought in artists to record a song with us.
Musicians
Sadie and Sydney are choir students at MVHS, currently in Madrigals. I reached out to Sadie to ask if she wanted to sing For Good for our Freestyle project and that she could pick anyone she wanted to sing with her. I didn’t find a pair of people on my own to sing this song together because I knew they needed to be able to mix well and not have one voice that drowns the other out, so I let Sadie pick the other person. Sydney and Sadie are section leaders together in Madrigals, so they know they blend well and work well together.

For the music recording project, we immediately knew we wanted a song from a musical, so we chose the song For Good from Wicked the musical. Artistically, we grew by communicating clearly with our artist, and using the studio for its endless musical opportunities – like ProTools, mics, and the mixing desk. One struggle we mainly had was intimidation as we have never really done anything music related before. Despite this, we had a lot of fun with our artists because they are so talented and sounded so well together.
We are most proud of the fact that we overcame the intimidation and did the project as soon as it was assigned. It was actually really fun and not as difficult as we thought. Now that we know how to mix things on ProTools, we can apply this to any future projects where we might want to do music. After making this project, we understand how much work goes into making music and we appreciated the time and effort our artists put into our project.
Personal reflection: I had a lot of fun exploring music production in this project. Usually projects like these kind of make me nervous because I really like music but I know that lack a lot of knowledge about it. I love that we did a song from Wicked because the second movie just came out and For Good is such a meaningful and special song. I feel like the song also kind of fits with our high school years coming to an end because its about moving on in friendships while also acknowledging the influence they have had on your life.
