Narrative 2.0

In our Design class we built upon the narratives we wrote and the surrealist artists we studied. We did this by creating a book jacket for our narrative as if it was an actual published book. Then for our surrealist artists we created our own surreal art by using HDR photography. Creating a book jacket was actually a lot of fun, I love designing characters as if they were part of a childerens book so creating the graphics designs for my characters was actually pretty enjoyable. I made the designs for everything in Illustrator then I imported all my designs into Adobe InDesign. It was in InDesign that I added the final touch to my book jacket. It was a low opacity piece of construciton paper overlayed on all my Designs that really brought everything together. Overall it was a fun process!

Creating my Surrealist artwork was a bit less fun than my book jacket. Starting out the surrealist piece I didn't know what I really wanted to make beyond incorporating a HDR photo of a faucet. I ended up asking my friend Adam for suggestions and he encouraged me to create the distorted face you see below (he even volunteered himself to be part of the artwork!). We used a process called 'Texutre Wrapping' in order to give objects a different and more detailed texture than they usually have. The textures were both pictures I took and also made HDR. The way HDR works is that you have three different photos of the same objects and same position but with different lighting. This allows us to bring out the best details of the object, it gives the object a more surreal look as well. Once I had all the pictures I needed I assembled them in Adobe Photoshop. While I wasn't a fan of this unit, I still learned a lot! I am not great with Photoshop so doing all this work really improved my skills with the program.
