Narrative Visual Perspective in Film

Synopsis

As Nora makes her way into adulthood, having accomplished most things that she can in life academically, her more social friends realize that she is missing only one thing- a boyfriend. She has always had a crush on the dashing, popular boy Brad from her school (who has never noticed her), but would never be able to ask anyone out in person. Her outgoing and slightly judgemental friend Emily suggests they make a Tinder profile for her together. Emily tells her that she is going to need to change her appearance if she wants to be matched up with anyone, so they change the way she looks completely by giving her a full makeover, editing the photos, and making up fake interests while creating her profile. After swiping through for a few minutes together, they stumble upon…. BRAD. Beautiful, hunky Brad. So immediately, Emily swipes yes for him. Nora has an initial outburst where she realizes what she has done and that she looks nothing like her photo and her personality is not even close to the description under it. Emily helps her prepare for the date as she continues to panic. While she is on the date, Brad hardly recognizes her and everything seems to be going completely wrong because she knows nothing about the topics she pretended she was interested in order to have more in common with him. Brad also turns out to be a complete douchebag who she realizes she wouldn’t want to date anyways. Nora comes home, and without the pressure of any of her friends- makes a new profile that is authentically herself. She shows her true looks and describes her academic accomplishments under the photos. She matches with an equally nerdy and awkward boy who she happily meets (he could show up at her house with a rose or something) as the story ends. With this story, I would really like to play up the costumes and create humor out of over-exaggerating a bit. For example, I could go all out with the outfit for the date, or making Brad look the most Brad-esque as possible. I think that I could also use a bit more modern humor in the interactions between the friends, which I am looking forward to.
